as per ancient Indian scriptures, Arishadvargas or the 'the six enemies of mankind that stops them from realizing their full potential & reach their ultimate blissful goals are - Kaam (lust). Krodh (anger), Lobh (greed), Moh (attachment), Ahamkara (arrogance) & Maathsarya (Envy) .

Wisdom shared by a pontiff of Ramakrishnashram that has stayed with me says - "... they're all manifestation of the same root, lust or desire (Kaam)
- when you don't get what you lust for, you get angry (Krodh)
- you become greedy to get more, when you get it (Lobh)
- you develop attachement ot all that you get/have (Moh)
- grow arrogant when you get whatever you desire (Ahamkar)
- and become envious when others get what you desire (Envy)

... so, to deal with these vices, address the root cause - Kaam-the-Lust !

Another ray of wisdom received from another scholarly pontiff -

Q: while Chaturvidha Purusharthas, the four devine objectives of man's life, comprise of 'Dharma, Artha, Kaama & Moksha', how come the Kaam is also first & the most dreaded of the Ari-shadvargas, the six-enemies of mankind?

A: When Artha & Kaama (wealth & lust) are fulfilled on the path of Dharma, the righteous way, and the objective is Moksha, the blissful state, they become divine experiences;

However, the same wealth & lust, outside the righteous way and without the objective of bliss, become the root cause of Arishadvargas - one leading to the other until it destroys the self, never attaining the divinity its meant to.

Swamis have a right to be non-celibate. In that case they should either marry or have an open relationship. Luring women devotees in trouble and having sex with them in return for some real or imagined benefits is exploitation of the worst kind, a breach of faith that cannot be condoned.

Yes, but I don't know why celibacy is important for swamihood. Can't we have married swamis, even profligate swamis?

I think, taking into consideration the times we live in, we should have the barest minimum expectations about the inner life of public figures. If we allow all swamis to take drugs, alcohol and enjoy all varieties of sexual pleasures, conjugal and otherwise, then may be, we can focus on the teachings.

As it is, our demands on the santliness of swamis look like a distraction that emphasises the trivial over the substantial.
