Rich tributes were given to Lt Sushil Khajuria who attained martyrdom while taking on militants in Kupwara on September 27, here on October 10 on the premises of University of Jammu.

Hundreds of people holding candles and flowers in their hands participated in the tribute function this evening.

Family members of the officer also participated in the function besides his friends, well wishers and NCC cadets.

On the occasion, patriotic songs were sung by the college and varsity students followed by a candle light village and five minutes mourning in his remembrance.

The speakers in the function stated that Lt Khajuria was an ardent follower of Bhagat Singh.

Throwing light on the life of Lt Khajuria, his elder brother, Capt. Anil Khajuria said: “It was his childhood dream to join the Indian army. He fought and died bravely making his family proud of him.”

“Since the day our son laid down his life for the nation, countless well-wishers have conveyed their condolences in person and through other means like e-mails, SMSes, letters and press statements. We express our sincere gratitude to all of you for standing with us in the hour of grief and sharing our loss and sense of pain,” said a statement issued by the family of Lt Sushil.

”We are the proud parents whose all three sons have been in the Indian army for the service of nation,” said parents of Lt Khajuria, Som Dutt Khajuria and Nirmala Khajuria.

A similar function was held at MAM College today on October 11, where Principal of the college, Ajeet Angral declared that an inter-college debate competition would be hosted by the college to commemorate the memories of Lt Khajuria every year on September 28.
