Kartikey Sehgal

The Young India started out as an experiment (an expression by itself) in style, prose and courage. Now, I am the only expressionist in the post-modernist sea of cerebral waste. The other writers are living—as I am no serial killer—but they are merely claimants to their wisdom.

I summarise them thus:

Outbursts over issues are calls for attention; to ensure presence and identity, at least in the intellectual life-sphere.

No expression at all. Their blogs are almost-vacant; no expression through music, dance or any art form.

Anxiety over relevance; writing is a waste of time.

No effort to reason out the anxiety; hence more curbing of expression.

Throw in some money, get yourself some loud publicity and perhaps a few of them would start writing. Issues would be invented to keep up with the popularity. Now-a-days I disbelieve their concern over the ‘issue’. It’ll be a five minute expression of chat-or-telephonic anxiety over an event and it would never find space again. Till the next issue.

Imagine art but work towards mediocrity

I still have two sections on the site. One for thoughts and the other for stories requiring some search or travel. I am tempted at times to merge them and make this a personal site. And then I think otherwise.

Next time we’ll read two beautiful stories by a young writer.
